New Social Travel Website : I Like Local

21 September 2014

This past July, social travel website I Like Local launched their international platform in Hong Kong. I Like Local enables travelers to book unique, local activities with locals in Asia. On the website, you will find 180 different activities across eight countries in Asia, from fishing with a local fisherman in Sri Lanka to volunteering in the slums of India.
From Farmstay to Food Experience
I Like Local connects the traveler to local people who offer activities in the following categories: Home stay, Farm stay, Art & Culture, Trek & Tour, Food Experience and Volunteering. Go fishing with a local fisherman in Sri Lanka, help on an organic fruit farm in Nepal, sleep with a local family in Thailand or experience the life in the slums of Delhi as a volunteer. At this moment I Like Local offers activities with locals in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. In the future more activities in other Asian countries, Africa and South-America will be offered.
100% of the income to the local community
Bonus of vacationing this way? 100% of the money asked by the locals for their activities is directly paid to them; I Like Local doesn’t charge them anything. I Like Local adds a small percentage on top of the price given by the local, which is a small price to pay for finding the unique vacation you were looking for. I Like Local is based on the principles of a “sharing economy”; combining strengths, collaborating and sharing to create more value for more people worldwide.
The Brains behind 'I Like Local'
I Like Local was founded by former business consultant Sanne Meijboom. Meijboom was born in the Netherlands and is now living in Hong Kong. After an international career in India and Brazil she developed the concept I Like Local. More and more people are looking for simple and authentic experiences, I Like Local cuts out the traditional travel agent, and incorporates the locals as well as the travelers, to get a better price and over all experience.
