New & Notable: Figaro

10 May 2016

Next up on our 'New & Notable' radar is FIGARO - a place for wine lovers of Hong Kong to relish the French wine culture and lifestyle in the heart of Soho. This newest addition to the ever-growing dining scene, off of Hollywood Road, offers trés chic ambience, a unique gastro-wine bar, fine food, fine wine, and great vibes. Figaro is spread out over 2 floors with a bar on the ground floor and a casual restaurant on the 1st floor.

THE NAME
Borrowing its name from a centuries-old romantic hero created by Pierre Beaumarchais, the story of Figaro began with two Mediterranean foodie friends, who had big appetites and even bigger dreams. Of course, opening a restaurant didn’t come without its difficulties and pitfalls. The biggest challenge was to make authentic French cuisine accessible to a new and larger audience, without skimping on quality.

THE WINE
The drinks menu focuses strongly on French wines with over 2,200 bottles in collection at the wine cellar, all originated from France’s famous Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Rhone Valley wine regions. Bottle prices range from HK$300 up to HK$5,000, with the majority of the wines priced below HK$1,500. There are currently 10 wines by the glass available, priced at HK$80 – HK$120 per glass with a special category “fine wine by the glass”, that changes every month from the best French regions priced between HK$150 – HK$300. Monthly wine tasting workshops will also be held at Figaro with a different theme per month. The next workshop will be on 18 May from 8pm onwards, focusing on the Alsace region.
